THE UK CHARITY DIGITAL BENCHMARKS STUDY IS BACK FOR 2024

We’re partnering with our friends at M+R again in what we expect to be another very successful project.

The need for the Study is bigger than ever. With the digital picture for UK charities changing at an eye watering pace and the cost of living crisis biting, the Study remains an excellent way of establishing how you and the overall sector are doing. As we all know, better data helps us all make better decisions.

The Study will review data points across the full spectrum of email, website, mobile and social media for the 2023 calendar year, as well as taking a dive into where charities are spending their digital advertising budget.

Want to know how much money is being raised by email?

Want to know what % of digital advertising budget is being spent in various channels?

Want to know how your cost per email sign up or donation compares to the sector?

Want to know what your donation page conversion rate should be?

Then this is the study for you. Read on. Or, if you’re ready to sign up, you can do that here. It only takes a few minutes.

All participating charities get to see their own performance as well as how the rest of the sector is fairing to gain that all important wider context for your future digital plans.

In a challenging fundraising environment where we need our budgets to work as hard as possible, the data helps us focus, prioritise and make better, insight-led decisions to improve our efficiency, invest to improve performance or exploit where we have a competitive advantage.

And just as importantly you’ll be central to providing a resource for the entire UK charity sector to use to run more effective digital programmes.

The process is easy and M+R supports you all the way through it. As in previous years there will be a kick off webinar, dedicated Slack channels and other support for pulling together your data.

The outline schedule for the 2024 Study is as follows.

  • Confirmation of participation by the end of December 2023.

  • Data submission templates sent by the end of December 2023.

  • Launch webinar (to go through data submission process) early January 2024.

  • Data due mid February 2024.

  • Launch late June / early July 2024.

We know times are tough for charities, so we have frozen costs for the third Study running. The fee will be £1,200, there’s no VAT to pay as M+R take care of all the billing and are US based. And based on feedback from previous participants, M+R will be opening up a UK bank account to make payment easier.

Benchmarks alone won’t improve our digital programmes. But accurate, wide-ranging benchmarks will enable us to identify the areas of focus to truly unlock their potential. And the more people who see the power of Benchmarks and join the Study in 2024, the richer and more robust the dataset, so we can all make even better decisions in future. Get involved today!
